Dr. Lakesia L. Dupree is an Assistant in Research at the Learning Systems Institute at Florida State University. She has over 15 years of experience teaching and coaching at the elementary school level. Dr. Dupree also has experience working with elementary prospective teachers by teaching methods courses and subsequently following them into to their field experiences to provide coaching and mentoring support. Furthermore, Dr. Dupree has fostered the enhancement of elementary school teachers’ mathematical and pedagogical knowledge through the delivery of professional development workshops, lesson studies, and coaching cycles.

Dr. Dupree possess a passion to enhance the world of mathematics education through research. Her dissertation work focuses on preparing future teachers to plan and implement mathematics lessons that are inclusive of their students’ backgrounds, mathematical thinking, interests, and real-world experiences. As an Assistant in Research, Dr. Dupree works on the Successful Start: Cognitively Guided Instruction Project. In this capacity, she provides support to elementary teachers at various schools in Hillsborough County enrolled in the project. Dr. Dupree also works to complete research project tasks as well as provide high quality professional development designed to deepen teachers’ understanding of ways to utilize their students’ thinking when teaching mathematical concepts.

In her spare time, Dr. Dupree loves to travel, spend quality time with her family, event planning, and volunteering.
