Education

MA in Art Education from the University of Alabama

Bachelor of Art Education from Istanbul Marmara University

Sena Karatas-Ozturk is a Graduate Research Assistant at the Learning Systems Institute (LSI) at the Florida State University. She is also an artist and graphic designer with a strong interest in the transformative power of art in society. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Florida State University's College of Fine Arts, she holds an MA degree in Art Education from the University of Alabama and a Bachelor of Art Education from Istanbul Marmara University.

Karatas-Ozturk's portfolio showcases both artistic and academic achievements, including numerous national and international exhibitions as both a solo artist and as part of collective showcases. Simultaneously, her research focused on emerging technologies such as Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence and their profound potential within art education. She has garnered recognition through various awards and prizes, with her most recent accomplishments including the "2024 HSF Excellence in Visual Arts Award" and "2022 Excellence and Achievement in Visual Arts Award" from Florida State University Graduate School, "Dissertation Research Grant, 2024" from FSU and, notably, the "Art Educator of the Year 2018 Award" from the Alabama Art Education Association. Recently, her "Little Black Girl's Journey" artwork / art-based research was chosen for display in the conference by the Arts-Based Educational Research Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association in Philadelphia Convention Center.
