LSI Team Surpasses 80 Interviews with Tallahassee Refugee Families Exploring Educational Experiences

LSI is leading the "Strengthening school experiences for refugee young people, families and their teachers in Tallahassee" project. Now in its 10th month, the LSI team has conducted more than 80 interviews with refugees from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Syria, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Afghanistan.

With just over a month until Educators Shaping Futures kicks-off in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the joint venture between the Learning Systems Institute (LSI), the World Bank Group, UNESCO and the Ethiopian Ministry of Education has seen hundreds of requests from potential participants and is building its speaker line-up each day.

Researchers in Florida State’s Department of Computer Science have received a $2.3 million National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to develop artificial intelligence tools that will help manage wildfires fueled by hurricanes in the Florida Panhandle. Rabieh Razzouk, Director of the Learning Systems Institute (LSI), Jim Reynolds, LSI’s co-Director of STEM Research and Rob Legnacher, associate in research at LSI, will all be contributing to the project

In September of 2024, Florida State's Learning Systems Institute (LSI) and the Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship were awarded a U.S. Department of State grant to enhance entrepreneurship education in Armenia in partnership with the Armenian State University of Economics (ASUE). Nearly one year later, officials from ASUE were in Tallahassee to continue work on the joint venture.

The Florida Center for Research in STEM (FCR-STEM) is leading the workforce and educational development FSU’s InSPIRE (Institute for Strategic Partnerships, Innovation, Research, and Education) project. In June, the FCR-STEM staff conducted eight week-long professional learning courses throughout Coastal Northwest Florida. All the courses focused on AI and robotics and were provided free of charge as part of InSPIRE at FSU, a program funded by Triumph Gulf Coast.
