LSI's international projects aim to improve primary, secondary, and tertiary education and to support educational reforms that call for pre-and in-service teacher education, curriculum, and materials development, including technical and vocational training for workforce development.
LSI works to improve learning and instruction in developing countries through international partnerships with governments, universities, and non-governmental organizations. The team’s extensive on-the-ground experience builds on a legacy of work in international settings. LSI’s portfolio of past and current international development programs focuses on supporting systems for sustainable and continuing professional development for educators and policymakers.
LSI has been involved in numerous projects based here in the United States and North America funded by agencies in the USA, including the U.S. Department of State, the National Science Foundation, the Florida Department of Education, the Institute of Education Sciences, and other organizations.

LSI has worked with the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, and Panama on projects, including the Community College Administrator Program (CCAP).
LSI has been a part of projects in five South American countries, including The Community College Administrator Program with Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and other countries globally.
Our faculty and staff have a wealth of experience working in African countries. The LSI team has been involved with projects in Botswana, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Malawi, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The LSI International Center's work in Asia and the Pacific Islands is extensive. Our faculty and staff have worked on projects in India, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, Tuvalu, Uzbekistan, and Yemen.
The Community College Administrator Program, which includes Ukraine, was designed to improve access, workforce development, private sector partnerships, distance education, governance, finance, student services, leadership, program assessment, utilization of technology, and community engagement through intensive study of the U.S. community college model.
The joint venture between has seen hundreds of requests from potential participants and is building its speaker line-up each day.

In September of 2024, Florida State's Learning Systems Institute (LSI) and the Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship were awarded a U.S. Department of State grant to enhance entrepreneurship education in Armenia.
In just three years of work on the USAID Strengthening Teacher Education and Practice (STEP) Activity, the Learning Systems Institute (LSI) at Florida State University made a significant impact on thousands of student teachers in Malawi.
LSI was honored with the Multilingual Education Leadership Award at a ceremony in Nigeria. The University of Maiduguri Language Centre presented the award in collaboration with UNICEF.
ECD's cornerstone job readiness course package equipped 19,663 students with job readiness skills and trained 210 instructors across 10 universities to deliver critical job readiness and employability skills.
In 2021, LSI began work on the USAID-funded Rwanda Tunoze Gusoma activity. LSI faculty provided continuous professional development to 111 teacher educators and education leaders.
Dr. Michelle Aguilar-Ong, one of the leading experts in developing community college frameworks, has been sworn in as the new special adviser for Local Colleges and Universities by the Commission on Higher Education in the Philippines.
As we begin year 4, we aim to prioritize the development of a diploma curriculum as well as electronic continuous professional development opportunities for teachers.
In the past three years, LSI has supported intensive professional development and continued mentoring for teacher educators from the 16 Teacher Training Colleges across Rwanda.
Among the achievements during the third quarter of 2024, staff members from STEP supported teacher educators in planning and implementing 50 Participatory Action Research (PAR) projects.
A Fulbright Visiting Scholar grant brought Dr. Ely Djulia Katmadihardja to Florida State University, but this wasn't her first time at FSU. Dr. Djulia began working with the Learning Systems Institute at FSU in 2006.
Dr. Michelle Aguilar-Ong came to Tallahassee from the Philippines to participate in the Community College Administrators Program (CCAP) led by the Learning Systems Institute (LSI). In 2024, she returned to Tallahassee and LSI as a visiting Fulbright Scholar
This past semester, FSU hosted four fellows from Egypt who spent three months in Tallahassee, delving into the academic environment at FSU, expanding their knowledge, and participating in graduate-level courses.
