Florida State University's Ukraine Task Force (UTF) recently hosted six visitors from Nizhyn, Ukraine, affiliated with the Nizhyn Lyceum (magnet high school), a historic institution founded in the 19th century. Among the visitors were three high school students and three teachers/administrators. The students are all members of the Lyceum's Robotics Club.

The visit to the FSU campus featured a comprehensive program centered on STEM, innovations and design thinking. The group toured several of FSU's advanced technology facilities, including the College of Engineering's Center for Advanced Power Systems, the Robotics Laboratory and the High-Performance Materials Institute. During a visit to the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, the group attended a presentation by researcher Mykhailo Ozerov from Ukraine and explored FSU's Innovation Hub.

The Ukrainian students and their teachers shared impactful insights into their educational experiences during wartime with the FSU faculty and staff. They described challenges like spending hours to access facilities for 3D printing parts for drones due to missile attacks and power outages.

Dr. Anna Romanova, a researcher from the Learning Systems Institute at FSU, and Dr. Pavlo Antonenko, a professor from the University of Florida, coordinated the visit under the direction of Dr. Vilma Fuentes, Program Director of FSU's UTF.
