NOTABLE

Student teachers in Malawi engaged in a lesson on counting phonemes in words to build phonemic awareness. The lessons were filmed as part of a series of videos to support instruction at Teacher Training Colleges. The videos are part of the USAID Strengthening Teacher Education and Practice Activity in Malawi, Adrienne Barnes-Story, Ph. D. (Learning Systems Institute) serves as the Principal Investigator for the activity.

The Learning Systems Institute staff conducted an Integrated CTE Case Study training on the FSU campus at Innovation Park. It was conducted by Jim ReynoldsJamie Santillo, Julie ChappellRobert HannaZaida McGinleySherri Winsett, Ninamarie Sapuppo, Bhushan Dahal and Kaniesha Clark.

Carmen Zachry, Ashley French and Heather French (Learning Systems Institute) attended the Florida Association of Mathematics Supervisors Conference in Orlando to film teachers for the CPALMS Teacher Perspectives video series.

Kate Schell (Learning Systems Institute) led a Qualitative Data Coding and Analysis workshop for the Malawi Strengthening Teacher Education and Practice activity in Lilongwe.

Ashley French and Heather French (Learning Systems Institute) presented “Equal Sign Explorations: Strengthening Primary Math Foundations” at the Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference andSo, You Think You Know CPALMS? Come See What’s New…and FREE!” at the Florida Association of Mathematics Supervisors Conference.  

Robert Hanna and Kaniesha Clark (Learning Systems Institute) presented “Stepping Stones to Success: Leveraging Algebra Tiles to Make Connections in Mathematics” at the Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference in Orlando.

Stephanie Zuilkowski, Ph.D., Associate Director for Research, Learning Systems Institute and Associate Professor of International and Multicultural Education presented “Best Practices: Fostering Inclusion, Collaboration, and Teacher Development. Best practices for improving pre-service teacher education in low- and middle-income countries” at the The Reimagining Teachers and Teacher Education for Our Futures conference in Helsinki, Finland.

Bhushan Dahal (Learning Systems Institute) presented the paper "Building for the Future: Exploring the Role of Sustainability-Designed Schools on Student Engagement" at the conference "Social Creatinnovation for the Sustainable Future of Nepal: Networking for Change" in Kirtipur, Kathmandu.
