Florida State University doctoral student Bodunrin Akinrinmadeโ€™s passion for educational policy led him from his home country of Nigeria to Tallahassee, where he is expanding his knowledge of how to improve basic education in developing countries, specifically in Sub-Saharan Africa.

RTI International has extended its contract with the Learning Systems Institute (LSI) at Florida State University to continue supporting the Advancing Basic Education in the Philippines activity. Specifically, the LSI team will use its extensive experience to build the research capacity of Bicol University (BU), West Visayas State University (WVSU), and Department of Education (DoE) stakeholders, focusing on early literacy.

Florida State University and the Learning Systems Institute (LSI) continued its partnership with the USAID/Lebanon Higher Education Capacity Development (HECD) Program by welcoming 18 university staff members from Lebanon to Tallahassee. The group spent five days focusing on career development programs with much of the program hosted by The Career Center at FSU.

Updating the work done by the Learning System Institute (LSI) at Florida State University in 2022. LSI is currently working on international projects with education professionals from Egypt, Lebanon, Malawi, the Philippines, Rwanda, Uzbekistan, and Zambia. We started 15 new projects this year, and our portfolio of research and development grants reached $63 million in funding, allowing us to surpass the $750 million mark in lifetime contracts and grant awards. Since the instituteโ€™s inception, LSI has significantly contributed to education in 44 countries around the globe.

My burning passion to improve the quality of basic education in the world, especially in developing countries, inspired me to apply to Florida State University. I was excited to learn from world-class faculty members in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, especially Dr. Stephanie Zuilkowski.

The STEP Activity aims at strengthening the capacity of Teacher Training Colleges to train teachers in early-grade instruction. This aim is aligned to the Ministry of Educationโ€™s National Reading Program (NRP), which is being implemented in Standards 1 - 4 of Malawiโ€™s primary schools. STEP also aims at providing pathways for continuing professional development for all of Malawiโ€™s primary teachers to excel.

Faculty from the Learning Systems Institute (LSI) and the School of Teacher Education at FSU will work with the Education Development Center (EDC) on the Teacher Excellence Initiative, a five-year, $49.5 million USAID project.
