One of the impactful resources CPALMS offers is the Mathematics Formative Assessment System (MFAS). Teachers using MFAS ask students to perform mathematical tasks, explain their reasoning and justify their solutions.

In 2022, Dr. Michelle Aguilar-Ong came to Tallahassee from the Philippines to participate in the Community College Administrators Program (CCAP) led by the Learning Systems Institute (LSI). In 2024, she returned to Tallahassee and LSI as a visiting Fulbright Scholar.

It was a true pleasure celebrating our accomplishments with Florida State University Provost Jim Clark and so many wonderful friends at our 2025 Winter Celebration Dinner.

Florida State University’s faculty and staff are central to its mission and the key to its countless accomplishments. Throughout the year, honors and recognitions are awarded to individual faculty and staff members across campus. Faculty and Staff Briefs are produced monthly to recognize accomplishments and provide a space where honors, awards, bylines, presentations, grants, service and any other notable items can be showcased.

This past semester, FSU hosted four fellows from Egypt as part of its work on the Initiative. Eman Abodahab, Zainab Elsallamy, Shimaa Ghobashi, and Hadya Soliman spent three months in Tallahassee, delving into the academic environment at FSU, expanding their knowledge, and participating in graduate-level courses.

Tallahassee Democrat reporter Tarah Jean wrote an article featuring Bhushan Dahal and his work with Kids of Kathmandu. It was published on the front page of the paper.

With both Ukraine and Florida experiencing catastrophic damage to cities from war and hurricanes, respectively, students at Florida State University joined forces with peers in Ukraine to develop real-life solutions for reconstruction efforts last month.

Dr. Brenda Wawire, a research faculty member at the Learning Systems Institute (LSI) at Florida State University, has been awarded a Jacobs Foundation Research Fellowship.

Dr. Vilma Fuentes, Program Director for Florida State University's Ukraine Task Force (UTF), spent almost two weeks in Ukraine in late October and early November meeting with members of President Zelenskyy's Office and other Ukrainian political and educational leaders.

The Learning Systems Institute has been a partner with the Education Development Center working on the United States Agency for International Development on the Higher Education Capacity Development Program since 2019. The program has been extended through August 31, 2025.
