Tallahassee, Fla. – June will be a busy month for the team at the Florida Center for Research in STEM (FCR-STEM). FCR-STEM staff will conduct seven professional learning courses for Gulf Coast teachers from June 2 to June 27. All the courses will focus on AI and robotics and will be provided for free as part of the Innovation for Strategic Partnerships for Innovation, Research and Education (InSPIRE) at FSU, a program funded by Triumph Gulf Coast.

FCR-STEM is a part of the Learning Systems Institute at Florida State University, and it leads the workforce and educational development of the $98.4M InSPIRE project on Florida's Gulf Coast. The project is dedicated to fostering innovation and advancing research that drives economic growth and serves the community's needs. The mission is to create strategic partnerships that bridge the gap between academia and industry, particularly in high-speed aerodynamics, advanced manufacturing and technology.

"We are thrilled to spend our second summer working with teachers from all over Florida’s gulf coast on the workforce and development education portion of InSPIRE," said Director of STEM Outreach at LSI Carrie Meyers. "Last July, we held the first training in Tallahassee. This summer, we will be taking our professional learning directly to the teachers of the Gulf Coast. We are excited to continue to educate on utilizing AI and robotics in the classroom as we prepare the next generation of innovators and leaders."

There will be three courses offered beginning next month. Engaging Elementary Students Using AI-Powered Storytelling, Engaging Secondary Students Using AI-Powered Instruction and Introduction to Robotics in the classroom will each be offered on multiple occasions in Gulf Coast school districts.

AIELEM101 (Engaging Elementary Students Using AI-Powered Storytelling) will be available to K-5 teachers in Bay, Escambia, Franklin, Gulf, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Wakulla and Walton school districts. Teachers interested in exploring the foundations of AI and its potential to transform education are welcome to attend these sessions.

AISEC101 (Engaging Secondary Students Using AI-Powered Instruction) is designed for teachers of grades 6-12 who are interested in integrating content areas with aerospace and advanced manufacturing themes using AI. Sessions will be held in Bay, Escambia, Gulf, Santa Rosa and Walton school districts.

ROBO101 (Introduction to Robotics in the Classroom) is an introductory course to equip educators with foundational knowledge and hands-on experience to integrate robotics, AI and engineering into classrooms. This course will be available to educators in Bay, Escambia, Franklin, Gulf, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Wakulla school districts.

"Last summer, the course we held in Tallahassee focused on AI and innovations in aerospace as potential ways to transform education," said Director of STEM Outreach at LSI Jim Reynolds. "We will build on that foundation this summer but on a much larger scale. Our team will spend the entire month of June with educators, offering three distinct courses and hosting seven total sessions. This summer's scope is much larger in terms of the number of teachers we are attempting to reach and the material we are covering."
