The Learning Systems Institute at Florida State University is entering its fourth year working in Zambia on the Transforming Teacher Education Activity. The USAID-funded project, led by LSI, aims to strengthen the capacity of Zambia’s pre-service teacher training institutions to improve student learning outcomes.

 The Learning Systems Institute at Florida State University has been awarded a new grant to pilot the Primary Teaching Residency Program at two Teaching Training Institutions in Rwanda.

The Learning Systems Institute at Florida State University has been building systems to improve learning and human performance for 54 years. LSI’s blend of experience and innovation was on full display during the recently completed Uzbekistan Education for Excellence Program funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). From direct training to developing new curriculum standards to building a nationwide digital platform, the LSI staff has once again impacted how the world learns.

In 2020 the Learning Systems Institute at Florida State University was chosen to lead the Transforming Teacher Education (TTE) Activity in Zambia. One of the exciting aspects of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded project was providing scholarships for instructors in Zambia to complete an online master’s degree program from FSU. This summer Virginia Muzyamba and Charles Zuze completed the program and earned their master’s degrees in elementary education.

Florida State University faculty and staff have begun their work in Egypt on the Teacher Excellence Initiative. The five-year, $49.5 million United States Agency for International Development project is supported by an international collaboration between FSU's Learning Systems Institute and College of Education, including faculty from the School of Teacher Education. The Teacher Excellence Initiative project is implemented by the Education Development Center consortium.

According to UNICEF, African countries are facing the world’s worst teacher shortage. The continent needs 17 million additional teachers to achieve universal primary and secondary education by 2030.

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs announced Thursday that the Learning Systems Institute (LSI) at Florida State University (FSU) will welcome approximately 20 South African college administrators and officials to Tallahassee.

RTI International has extended its contract with the Learning Systems Institute (LSI) at Florida State University to continue supporting the Advancing Basic Education in the Philippines activity. Specifically, the LSI team will use its extensive experience to build the research capacity of Bicol University (BU), West Visayas State University (WVSU), and Department of Education (DoE) stakeholders, focusing on early literacy.

Florida State University and the Learning Systems Institute (LSI) continued its partnership with the USAID/Lebanon Higher Education Capacity Development (HECD) Program by welcoming 18 university staff members from Lebanon to Tallahassee. The group spent five days focusing on career development programs with much of the program hosted by The Career Center at FSU.
